Shiv Sena chief Bal Thackeray made a rare appearance on Tuesday as he visited actor Nana Patekar’s house for Ganpati darshan, along with his son and Sena executive president Uddhav and grandson Aditya. The Sena chief, who was invited by the actor on Monday, made a public appearance after more than 4 months.
Thackeray spent around 20 minutes at Patekar’s house, before being helped out into his car by the actor himself. Even though he looked fitter than the last time, Thackeray was accompanied by his doctor, who rode in the same car. The visit assumes significance as it comes a few days after estranged nephew and Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS) chief Raj Thackeray also visited Patekar’s home for a darshan.
Sources, however, refuted any direct political significance of the meeting. “Balasaheb had not stepped out of the house for a long time and so the invitation came at the right time. Hence, he accepted it and decided to visit the actor,” said the source. But, a senior Sena leader
did confess that Thackeray’s appearance was meant to give out a political statement. “The Kalyan-Dombivli municipal polls are approaching and hence, an appearance from Balasaheb was meant to be a political statement.”
