Balcony collapses during visarjan, 1 dead

A 46-year-old man was killed and at least seven were injured when a part of balcony, crowded with people to watch the famous Lalbaugcha Raja Ganesh procession in central Mumbai, collapsed on Sunday.

According to the Kalachowkie police, the procession of the famous Lalbaugcha Raja Ganesh was underway when the mishap took place near Bharatmata theatre in Lalbaug.

The police said that excessive load must have caused the collapse. The civic officials, meanwhile, termed it as an accident and said enquiry will be conducted on the stability of the structure.

The injured were rushed to the KEM hospital. The seven persons who sustained injuries are currently recuperating at the hospital added the fire brigade officials.
