Stepping up their efforts to catch the unidentified accused who hurled acid at Preeti Rathi, 25, at the Bandra Terminus on Thursday, the police plan to prepare a second sketch of the man with the help of the description provided by Rathi’s relatives.
They are also trying to enhance the quality of the closed circuit television footage obtained from the station authorities.
Currently, five police teams comprising the Bandra Government Railway Police and local crime branch officials are probing the incident. One team has left for Delhi to get statements of Rathi’s mother and other relatives.
The team would also coordinate with the Delhi police to check if the family had any ongoing dispute, which might have led to the attack.
Other teams are, meanwhile, scanning the CCTV footage of the stations through which the Jammu-Tawi Express passed, as the accused is suspected to have escaped from the spot in it.
“The footage from stations such as Surat, Vadodara and others are being scanned,” said B Shirsat, deputy commissioner of police, GRP (Western Railway).
The police have claimed that the family of the victim is not cooperating with them and are evading vital questions. The family believes the incident is a result of mistaken identity, said police.
Rathi’s father Amarsingh said, “My daughter used to travel by public transport in Delhi. If anybody had to plan an attack out of vengeance, why would he travel all the way to Mumbai for it? We are co-operating with the police.”
