Two days after residents of the Indira Gandhi building in Bandra (East) complained of water contamination, the civic body swung into action and sent two water samples collected from the building for tests on Friday.

Municipal commissioner, Subodh Kumar said the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) had collected water samples from the tank of society and also from the BMC water pipeline to check the source of contamination. The report is expected by Monday.

Kumar said, “If we find the leakage, we will repair it even though this is responsibility of the housing society and the builder.” Normally sewage tank constructed near water tank in the buildings and sewage tank leak might be cause of contamination.

Meanwhile, residents said that Basraj Maitre (38), husband of Tara Maitre, who lost her life due to contaminated water, had been admitted to Bhabha hospital. “The patient was admitted with history of loose motions. He is on fluids and medication and his condition is stable,” said Dr Sulbha Chirmule, medical superintendent, KB Bhabha Hospital.

Residents also alleged that atleast eight cases of gastroenteritis had been reported.
