The Anti-Terrorism Squad (ATS) arrested four persons earlier this week, including two Bangladeshis, and recovered more than Rs 10 lakh in fake currency from them.
They had been trying to circulate the currency in the country by getting into small businesses and paying their employees with fake notes.
Rakesh Maria, additional director general of police (ATS), said fake Rs 500 and Rs 1,000 notes were seized from them.
“We will be apprising the Bangladeshi consulate of this serious issue,” Maria said, adding that the Bangladesh-Malda route was used to bring such notes into the country. HTC
