Bar singer’s body found, police suspect missing boyfriend

The partially decomposed body of a 27-year-old bar singer was found from the bathroom of her Ghatkopar (East) residence on Monday. The police suspect that the victim was strangled to death.

Zarina Abdul Kasam Khan, was living with her boyfriend at Shastrinagar slum, the police said.

Khan and her boyfriend hailed from Kolkata and used to work as singers in a bar.

“The owner of the house had gone to collect rent from the victim on Sunday but found the house locked,” said R.M. Vhatkar, deputy commissioner of police, zone VII.

On Monday morning, the owner went to the house again and found a foul smell emanating from the house. He informed the Pant Nagar police.

“There was a nylon rope around her neck. It seems like she was strangled and dumped in the bathroom. She and her boyfriend were living together for last eight months. The man is the suspect in the case as he is missing,” Vhatkar said.

The neighbours had last seen Khan on September 10.

“We are waiting for the post-mortem report to ascertain if Khan was raped. Her decomposed body made it difficult to identify external injuries,” Vhatkar added.

“The clothes on the woman’s body were torn and some rags had been thrown on her after placing the body in the bathroom. We will circulating her partner’s sketch,” said an officer, requesting anonymity.
