Bar singer’s murder: Husband, his brother held

Three days after the decomposed body of a bar singer was found in her Ghatkopar flat, the police arrested her husband and brother-in-law from Kolkata for the murder.

Zarina Abdul Kasam Khan (27) was found with a nylon rope around her neck. The police suspect that she was strangled and dumped in the bathroom.Her husband Abdul, who was missing was the prime suspect.

The couple hailed from Kolkata and worked as singers in a bar. The police found Abdul in Kolkata.

“After sustained interrogation, Abdul confessed to the murder. He also revealed about the involvement of his brother in the crime,” said a senior officer from Pant Nagar police station, requesting anonymity.

Ritesh Kumar, additional commissioner of police (east region), said: “The two men were arrested from Kolkata on Thursday. They would be brought to Mumbai by Friday.”

“Abdul suspected Zarina, his second wife, of having an extra marital affair. The couple, married eight years ago, have two children, aged five and one.”

Her body was found after the owner of the house had gone to collect rent from the couple. He found foul smell emanating from the locked house and approached the police.

Zarina was last seen by neighbours on September 10.
