The forensic test’s report of the cause of fire at Bhabha Atomic Research Centre (BARC) laboratory last week has turned out to be inconclusive.
The Forensic Science Laboratory despatched the test report to the Trombay police station on Friday.
Two research fellows, Umang Singh and Partha Bag, died in the blaze that broke out on December 30 at a modular laboratory housed on the third floor.
“From the debris specimen that the police provided us with, we have not found any
chemical which could have led to any explosion,” said a source at the Forensic laboratory, Kalina.
The cause of fire has been a mystery. The police had sent at least five specimens for forensic tests.
“Maybe the specimen provided to us might not have any explosive chemical substance [that could have led to an explosion which, in turn, could have caused the fire. If the police hand over other specimen to us, we will test that too,” the source said.
