BEST bus crushes biker to death in Andheri

Going for a ride with his friend in Andheri, cost Pravin Ramesh Vishwakarma, 19, his life on Saturday night.

The incident occurred when Vishwakarma, a resident of Lelewadi in Andheri, was returning home with his friend Manoj Kumar Yadav, 20, a resident of Indira Nagar in Andheri. Around 9.25pm, when the duo reached Sansar hotel at Marol Naka in Andheri (East), a BEST bus (MH 01 L 5358) struck the bike from the rear. “Such was the impact of the collision that Vishwakarma got thrown off the bike. His head got crushed under the wheels of the bus. He was rushed to Cooper hospital where he was declared dead on arrival,” said Jaiprakash Giram, senior inspector of Sahar police station.

Yadav, who was riding pillion, also sustained minor injuries in the incident.

Bus driver Dattaram Namdeo More, 32, was arrested on charges of rash driving and causing death due to negligence. He was released on a surety of Rs. 15,000 on Sunday, the police said.

The Regional Transport Office (RTO) will inspect both the vehicles to determine if the accident occurred due to human error or mechanical failure.

NA Walawalkar, public relations officer, BEST said, “The driver has been suspended. We are trying to ascertain the cause of the accident.”
