The Brihanmumbai Electricity Supply and Transport (BEST) will add new routes to the fast-track corridor services that mainly cover long-distances. The letter ‘C’ will indicate these corridor services followed by the bus numbers.
The new routes proposed by BEST will start between Sion-Bhayander (C-72), Anushakti Nagar-Dindoshi (C-60), Ghatkopar-Kalamboli (C-53) and Sion-Gorai Depot (C-12). The unique point of these long distance BEST corridor routes is that there would be a limited number of stops between the two points.
Each of these bus routes would run 40 services in a day with Sion as a point of interchange. “This is the eighth route, and we are planning 18 such corridor routes connecting Mumbai with Navi Mumbai and Thane over a period of time,” said BEST General Manager, O P Gupta.
In June, BEST had started four corridor routes connecting the suburbs with South Mumbai. These routes were between Mantralaya and Mahim (C1), Mahim to Mira Road East (C 71), Colaba to Sion (C2) and Sion to Cadbury junction in Thane (C 42).
Initially the buses will run at a gap of every 20 minutes but gradually they will bring it down to 5 minutes. The idea behind this is to have a north-south connecting straight bus service running parallel to railway lines.
They have identified four different colours for the purpose that is yellow, grey, blue and green. The colours would be painted in the front and sides depending on the route.
