On the occasion of the golden anniversary of the arts and sports club of the Brihanmumbai Electric Supply and Transport (BEST) and 64 years of its formation, the undertaking will honour those artistes who have worked with BEST before achieving success, on August 5.
Some of these include Marathi actors such as Prashant Damle, Arun Nalawade, Avinash Narkar, and well-known litterateurs such as SN Pendse and PL Mayekar. The felicitation is part of the celebrations that will be held from August 4-9 and will include cricket match and rangoli competition among others. August 7 will be celebrated as BEST Day.
"I feel proud to be honoured by BEST. I can say that the authority created a base for my career. In fact, my colleagues and seniors went out their way to support me," said Damle, a prominent television and theatre artiste who worked as a typist with BEST for nine years.
For Arun Nalawade, the lead actor in Shwaas, a film that reached the Oscars, inaugurating a bus route for BEST was a proud moment. "I couldn't imagine that a motor mechanic at BEST could ever pose with the general manager for a photograph. I should honour BEST for their contribution to my success," said Nalawade.
For some, BEST helped them realise their potential. "While working in dramas at BEST, I realised my potential," said Narkar.
"As part of a competition, I was asked to direct a drama after which I got interested in acting. BEST has been cooperative and supportive throughout. It feels great that someone whom I consider is my own is honouring me," said Madhvi Juvekar, clerk and actress in Comedy Express serial.
