A 55-year-old Andheri businessman committed suicide on Wednesday.

A computer parts wholesaler, Anish Kalse allegedly jumped off the terrace of one of the 16-storey buildings at Atlantic Society.

The DN Nagar police said Kalse did not leave a suicide note so the reason behind his suicide was not known.

“At 11 am on Wednesday Kalse left for his his Andheri office but after driving some distance took a U turn and returned to the building gate. He parked the car at his usual spot,” said M.D. Awhad, senior inspector.

“While parking, Kalse accidentally scraped his car against another parked adjacent. He, however, walked away before the watchman could ask him about it. The watchman ran behind him, but did not manage to talk to him, added Awhad.

Kalse’s wife Shagufta (43), who works at a bank in Sewri, was at work at the time of the incident.

The police said Kalse , who lived in the A-wing, went to the C-Wing in the same society and jumped off the terrace.

The watchman of the C-wing told the police that he heard a loud thud and went he went to check, found Kalse’s body on the concrete. He alerted society members who took Kalse to the hospital but he was declared dead on arrival.

Shagufta is in a state of shock and the police are yet to record her statement.

“She is not in a state to answer our questions,” said a police officer, requesting anonymity for lack of authorisation to talk to the media.

The police are now trying to find out if Kalse was facing a financial problem.

“We will question his subordinates and check his cellphone records to find out what led him to end his life,” said the officer.
