A 35-year-old businessman allegedly shot his wife in their Ulhasnagar house on Saturday night. Mahesh Ahuja and his wife Bhavana, 33, used to have frequent fights over his affair with another woman, said the police.

The incident happened after the World Cup final match got over on Saturday. The couple had a fight in the fourth floor room of their five-storey Ahuja Bungalow in Ulhasnagar.

Mahesh whipped out his revolver, put its barrel in Bhavana’s mouth and fired. She died on the spot. Mahesh escaped after the incident.

The couple has two children, a girl aged 15 and a 10-year-old boy. Mahesh’s father, Prakash Ahuja, owns a Maruti showroom at Ulhasnagar.

Police inspector Dilip Patil, said Bhavana’s brother, Manoj Chhabria, has lodged a complaint against Mahesh. “We sent the body to JJ Hospital for a post-mortem,” said Patil. The police have formed four teams to look for Mahesh. Bhavana’s parents conducted her last rites on Sunday evening.
