The civic body has issued a notice to Kohinoor Mill, opposite Shiv Sena Bhawan, Dadar (W), owned by Unmesh Joshi, son of Shiv Sena leader Manohar Joshi, asking them to repair roads leading to the premises, which were damaged due to heavy vehicles.
It is for the first time that the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) has asked a private firm to bear the expenses of repair work.
DP Jain, assistant municipal commissioner, G-north ward (Dadar West), sent a notice to Kohinoor CTNL on Thursday. “Heavy vehicles owned by the company have led to damage of two roads,” said Jain on Tuesday.
The ongoing construction work inside the Kohinoor Mill premises has led to a rise in vehicular traffic, especially heavy vehicles. As a result, a 250-metre stretch of JK Sawant Marg, from Ruparel College to LJ Road, and a stretch of about 200 metres of Padmabai Thakkar Road, from Shivaji Mandir Theatre to Ruparel College Circle, have developed potholes.
“The road has been damaged due to our vehicles. So as a social obligation, we will repair it before Ganeshostav festival,” said sources from Kohinoor CTNL, requesting anonymity. He also clarified that it was not be treated as a notice but a letter sent to them.
The BMC usually levies a fine, but it has for the first time asked a private firm to repair the road.
