On one hand the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) officials are trying to figure out how they are going to rectify the errors in the proposed development plan (DP), while on the other they are putting together a presentation to defend it.
The plan will first be presented to civic chief Sitaram Kunte and then a decision will be taken. Kunte will also decide whether any action should be taken against the consultants and other involved in the process of preparing the draft plan.
However, it is likely that the civic body will take help of the same consultants, who are being blamed for the flaws in the DP.
“We will try to correct all the errors in the draft DP. We are working out a plan on how we should go ahead to complete this task as we have just four months. We will start work soon,” said a senior official from the DP department.
“For this task, we may seek help of the same consultant,” he added.
As for the presentation being planned by the department to defend the DP, another official said, “The presentation will explain all the errors being pointed out. We will discuss it with this civic commissioner and then the presentation may be shown to the media as well.”
According to a source, Kunte will hold a meeting with the DP department where a decision on the action against the consultant will be discussed.
This time, while drawing up the DP, the civic body will have to consider the opinions of the citizens. “We will scrutinize the letters and include the major suggestions and objections in the new DP,” the official said.
R Balchandran, chief engineer, DP department, said, “We are yet to receive the orders from the chief minister’s office. I can comment only after that.”
Opposition leader in BMC Devendra Amberkar demanded action against the consultant and slammed the civic body for the shoddy work.
