A week after civic chief Sitaram Kunte presented the controversial draft development plan for the city, the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) will now invite suggestions and objections from citizens.
The general body comprising corporators headed by mayor Snehal Ambekar granted permission to the administration on Monday to make the draft plan a public document. The BMC is expected to issue a notification, upload the plan on its website and invite objections and suggestions from citizens in three days. The draft plan will be open for suggestions for 60 days.
The draft DP was, however, not discussed by corporators. The meeting proceeded with condolences to NCP leader RR Patil and CPI leader Govind Pansare.
Leader of the house and Sena corporator Trushna Vishwasrao said, “There was no meaning to discuss the DP when all corporators haven’t been handed over the plan.”
Rais Shaikh, group leader of Samajwadi Party in BMC, will demand meetings in the coming weeks to discuss the DP. “I am writing to the mayor asking her to call for a special meeting for 2-3 days to thoroughly discuss the vision plan of the BMC,” said Shaikh.
Citizens can submit their suggestions and objections to an email id that will be announced by the BMC in coming days. Once the 60-day period to submit views is completed, the planning committee comprising experts, state government officials and standing committee members will debate and make changes.
