A bowl of food and two-three plates have been found on the dining table in the living room, where developer Jayant Ajmera’s wife Chetna was found murdered, the police said.

Chetna’s throat was slit and jewellery reportedly worth Rs 1.4 crore was stolen from their Ghatkopar residence on Monday. “When our team entered the flat, we found a bowl of food on the dining table in the living room and a few plates near the body,” said Qaiser Khalid, additional commissioner of police (east region).

This, the police believe, only strengthens their theory that the accused were known to the deceased. The police suspect that Chetna may have been serving the food when the accused attacked her on the head.

“There are several possible lines of investigation that are being probed by the police teams. So far, nothing has been ruled out,” added Khalid.

“There are several probable suspects in the case and the cook, who worked at the Ajmera household for 15 days earlier this year, is one of them. He was not found at the address provided by him. His location has been traced and he would now be interrogated,” said an official.

“It is possible that the cook may not have been involved in the murder. He had left the Ajmera residence after a fight. Why would the deceased allow him in?” said another official.

The police have also recorded the statements of the family members of the deceased. The domestic helps, building watchman and the drivers employed with the Ajmeras were questioned. They went through the CCTV footage of a building near Vaishali Apartment, where the murder took place. “The footage did not help us,” the official said.
