The neighbours of Nikhil Bankar who stabbed his classmate and killed himself on Saturday are shocked. The youngsters of Bandra’s government colony said such an incident was unexpected as Bankar was a reserved person and never mingled with people in the colony.
The victim and Bankar were students of the management degree course. One of the neighbours of the victim, who stayed with her uncle in Kalina, said that Bankar had threatened the victim on Thursday, when the college students had gone on an educational trip.
“The children had gone on some exhibition trip to Vashi. I was told that Nikhil threatened the victim in on the bus. She got scared and skipped college on Friday,” said the neighbour.
The victim was living with her uncle and grandmother in Kalina owing to the proximity to college.
Around a fortnight ago, the victim’s mother had requested one of her college friends who lived in the same colony (in Kalina) to accompany her to and from the college. The friend said that Bankar was a “psycho” and was known for his explosive behavior. He would pick fights with everyone, he said.
The relatives of Bankar, however, are in deep shock. Prakash Salve, Bankar’s maternal uncle, said: “We have not informed Bankar’s mother and grandmother as it can affect their health. The boy never showed such symptoms. It’s hard to believe he did such a thing.”
