In retaliation to a breach of privilege notice that industry minister Narayan Rane served on him, BJP legislator Devendra Fadnavis used a similar legislative tool to get even with Rane.
On Friday, he served a breach of privilege notice on the minister and Marathi newspaper Prahar, of which Rane is the editorial consultant, for publishing a defamatory article.
Fadnavis claimed that the newspapers put words in Rane's mouth while reporting the minister's speech on a CAG report that the BJP leader had leaked in the legislature. He termed the report as a ploy to prevent him from talking against corruption in the House. Rane had moved a privilege notice against Fadnavis for leaking the CAG report and making what he termed as baseless allegations against him.
Suspension of MLAs revoked
The one-year suspension of Shiv Sena and BJP legislators was revoked by the Assembly on Friday, which was the last day of the session. Thirteen MLAs from the Sena and one from the BJP were suspended earlier this month for staging a mock religious function in the House in protest of theft of a Ganesh idol from a temple at Dive Agar in Raigad. Meanwhile, Speaker Dilip Walse-Patil announced that the monsoon session of the state legislature would start on July 9.
