The Nashik anti-corruption bureau (ACB) on Tuesday summoned public works department’s executive engineer Satish Chikhlikar’s wife for questioning.
ACB sources said 70% of Chikhlikar’s properties, estimated to be worth around Rs 15 crore, are registered in his wife’s name. The others are in the name of his father and brother-in-law.
“Chikhlikar recently bought two sports utility vehicles, a Toyota Innova and Renault Duster, and got it registered it under some Dhulia resident’s name,” said SH Mahavarkar, deputy commissioner of police, ACB, Nashik, adding that the man had been traced.
The police found that Chikhlikar purchased two to three properties at different places every year. The ACB has seized 38 files pertaining to the income tax payments made by his family.
Sources claimed that Chikhlikar had twice attempted to commit suicide after his arrest.
Meanwhile, home minister RR Patil said there was no political or state government pressure on the police in the investigation.
“Chikhlikar has not taken the name of any politician and no diary has been found. The ACB will file its report in two days,” Patil said on Tuesday.
Chikhlikar’s junior and section engineer Jagdish Wagh was caught accepting a bribe of Rs 22,000, who has also been suspended.
