On Tuesday, brothers, Shivshankar Jaiswal, 10, and Ravishankar Jaiswal, 8, suffocated to death after being locked in a Maruti Zen car parked near a playground at Mhada colony, Badlapur.
Vijaykumar Bagal, inspector, Badlapur (East) police station said that the father of the boys, Ravindra Shivpujan Jaiswal, 36, had lodged a missing-persons complaint reporting his missing sons, on Tuesday, at 11.00pm. Bagal added that Ravindra, in his complaint, said that his children had gone out to play on Tuesday afternoon and were missing since.
On Wednesday, at 11.30am, children playing at the ground noticed the head of a boy on the windshield of the locked car (MH 01 Y 3444). Soon after, the police was informed. When the car was unlocked, bodies of both Shivshankar and Ravishankar were found inside. The car that belongs to Vilas Lokhande, 23, also a resident of the colony, had been parked near the ground for the last 15 days.
Bagal said that the door of the car may have been left unlocked, and the boys might have entered the car and locked themselves in by mistake. Later, on being unable to unlock the door they may have suffocated to death.
Bagal further added that though currently a case of accidental death has been registered, the case would be investigated from all angles.
