The new parking lot policy that got the go-ahead by CM Prithviraj Chavan on Wednesday, says the developer cannot dictate where the new public parking lots will be constructed. These will be decided as per the city’s requirements.
An official media release from the chief minister’s office said the civic committee led by the BMC commissioner would clear proposals after studying the area’s requirement and advice from the traffic police commissioner. These would require prior clearance from the government too.
“The parking policy has been rationalised so that it is not tilted in favour of builders. The chief minister has been speaking of unlocking the value of land and this new policy will help authorities earn revenue from the land,’’ said a senior bureaucrat.
Sources said the decision would soon be followed by others and would bring transparency in the government’s urban development policies.
