At least two persons are feared trapped inside a five-storey building which collapsed at Mumbra in Thane on Saturday morning.

This is the third building tragedy in Mumbai since April.  Earlier, the Adarsh building in Shil Phata had collapsed killing 74 people. In June, another building, Shakuntala Apartment, came crashing down, killing 10 people in the wake.

In the Saturday mishap, the residents of building No. 5 at Bhanu Complex in Jeevan Baug Mumbra began to vacate it as soon as it started to shake before crashing down at around 7.50am.

Thane Municipal Corporation’s (TMC) disaster management officer, Santosh Kadam, said the two persons, who could not escape, were still trapped inside the building and efforts were on to rescue them.

According to the locals, the building does not figure on the corporation's list of dangerous structures.
