Cabinet to decide on new rules for school buses
For all parents of school children, February 24 would be a significant day, as the guidelines for school buses will be presented in front of Cabinet ministers. If the Cabinet approves it then there will be a new policy in place, exclusively for school buses.

Radhakrishna Vikhe-Patil, state transport minister said, “On Feb 24 we would present the school bus proposal in front of the cabinet and once it is approved, a general resolution (GR) would be made.” The new rules and regulations for school buses will be in place from start of the new academic year of 2010.
“The school children travelling in school buses shall also be insured under the comprehensive policy for an appropriate amount yet to be fixed,” said a member of Committee on Model School Buses. The school buses should also have details of blood group and contact number of the school children. It should also have a separate rack below the seat for children to keep their bags and water bottles.
The Traffic Police and BMC shall specify stops and parking space for these buses in appropriate locations according to school timings.
