An argument between two groups led to the death of a 22-year-old call centre employee and seriously injured his friend on Sunday at Malwani. Two youths were arrested on the charge of murder.

According to the Malwani police, Abdul Shaikh, 22, along with his friend Ibrahim Shaikh, 23, both Malwani residents, went to Tiranga society to meet the former’s girlfriend.

They reached the society around 1am.

Three youth — Adil Atiq Ansari, a call centre employee, Irfan Shaikh, 22, and Abdul Wasim — were standing below the building. The trio was allegedly drunk, said the police.

“Adil along with his friends had an argument with Abdul about him coming to their neighbourhood late in the night. They also asked Abdul to keep away from his girlfriend and stop harassing her,” added a police officer requesting anonymity.

The argument led to a fight in which Abdul and Ibrahim attacked Ansari and Irfan with a sharp weapon.

Wasim escaped. Ansari, who sustained serious injuries, was taken to Bhagwati Hospital but was declared dead on arrival.

Wasim contacted the police, after which the police tracked down the two accused.

“The duo has been arrested on the charge of murder,” said V Andhale, senior police inspector, Malwani police station. A local court sent the accused to police custody for seven days.
