A 50-year-old carpenter committed suicide by hanging from the ceiling fan at his Kandivli residence on Monday.

When Maganlal Parmar did not respond when his neighbours knocked on his door, they informed the police at 12.15pm. Parmar was taken to Bhagwati Hospital, where he was declared dead. Parmar has not left any suicide note, said the police.

Following his wife’s death, Parmar had married a woman, who had three children. As the couple couldn’t get along, they soon got separated. However, the woman’s elder son Sanjay and his family continued to live with Parmar. According to sources, Sanjay who works as an estate agent suspected that his wife was having an extra-marital affair with Parmar. The suspicion fuelled several fights between Parmar and Sanjay.

“We have registered a case of accidental death. Further investigations into the case are on,” said Hareshwar Pimple, senior inspector of the Kandivli police station.
