Two days after a 26-year-old man committed suicide by jumping in front of a goods train at Virar, the Vasai Government Railway Police (GRP) have registered a case of abetment of suicide against fifteen persons, including inspector Pravin Patil of Charkop police station.
While the names of Patil and eight others was mentioned in the suicide note of the deceased, Nikesh Bhandari, six others were booked based on the family’s allegations, police said.
“We have registered a case against the fifteen accused under Indian Penal Code sections 306 for abetment of suicide and 34 for common intent. Our investigation is in progress and arrests will be made once our inquiry is over,” said senior inspector Prafulla Kshirsagar of Vasai GRP.
A crowd of over 300 to 350, including friends and relatives of the deceased gathered outside Charkop police station between 10 am and 1.30 pm on Thursday. The crowd, the police said, was demanding arrests be made as soon as possible.
