Four days after 24-year-old Ashwini Satpute was killed after a tree fell on her inside her office complex at Marathon Next Gen Era complex, Lower Parel, the police on Tuesday registered a case of death due to negligence against 'persons concerned' from the civic body, Marathon Next Gen Era, and the employer of the deceased.

The case was registered after Satpute's 45-year-old father approached the police on Monday.

On June 29, Satpute, a resident of Samta Nagar, Kandivli, who worked as an accountant in a private firm located in the complex, was about to enter her office building when a 24-foot tree located inside the complex collapsed on her.

The tree first fell on temporary railing and then fell on her. She was rushed to the KEM hospital, where she succumbed to her injuries.

Sudhakar Ghagre, senior inspector, NM Joshi Marg police station said that the police had registered a case of death due to negligence as her father, Suresh Satpute, had lodged a complaint against the three parties.

Police said that Suresh alleged that Satpute's employers took time to provide her medical assistance and were thus also responsible for the death.

"We will probe the case and later book individuals if they are found responsible for the mishap," said Ghagre.

He also said that the NM Joshi Marg police had dispatched a letter to the G-south ward office of the BMC two days back, and have sought details on the condition of the tree.

"We are awaiting their reply and are trying to find out if the train had been declared dangerous," said Ghagre.

This is the first death caused by a tree collapse during this year's monsoon.
