Chain snatcher lynched, aide injured in rabale

A chain snatcher was allegedly lynched by an angry mob, while one of his accomplices was seriously injured on Friday. The police said the third accomplice managed to escape.

The incident occurred on Friday at Saisadanand Nagar in the Ghansoli area of Navi Mumbai.

Locals said Leela Pathak, 25, a resident of the area was walking, when the three, including Sandeep Sawant and an accomplice identified as Umbarkar, allegedly came in an autorickshaw and tried to snatch the gold chain that she was wearing.

Pathak, however, was quick to raise an alarm, the police said. Some youngsters, who were sitting in a chowk nearby heard her and allegedly began assaulting Sawant.

The police said the other two fled in the autorickshaw they were sitting in. However, locals managed to find the autorickshaw. got Umbarkar out of the vehicle and began assaulting him, the police added.

While Sawant succumbed to his injuries, Umbarkar, has been admitted to a municipal hospital in Vashi.

Senior police inspector of Rabale police station, Nasser Pathan said, “We are on the look out for the third accomplice.”
