Eight thousand civic employees have threatened to go on an indefinite strike from July 14.
The employees, from octroi, development plan, health workers and solid water management department are protesting against the non–payment of salaries according to the Sixth Pay Commission.
However, emergency services such water department will not participate.
On Friday, employees conducted a demonstration in all ward offices and served notices to the administration about the strike.
Union leaders Sharad Rao (NCP) of Municipal Mazdoor Union and Baba Kadam of Municipal Karmachari Kamgar (Sena) will lead the strike.
“Health services fall under emergency services and are amongst the worse affected,” said Rao.
He also said that water department will not participate in the agitation though the department is under staffed by 5,000 employees.
Earlier the employees had decided to go on strike from June 29 to July 1 but after Municipal Commissioner Swadheen Kshatriya intervened they called of the strike.
The talks failed and so they decided to go on strike from next Wednesday.
