A Class 10 student was shot dead outside his board examination centre in Murbad city on Thursday around 2.30pm. Ganesh Banarasidas Jaiswal, 19, a resident of Murbad, was appearing for his SSC board exams as an external student at the Hutatma Bhai Kotwal Vidyalaya in Mhasa Village, the police said.
On Thursday, Jaiswal had appeared for the science-2 paper and was leaving the exam centre when he was attacked by three unknown assailants in full public view. “The assailants were on a motorbike,” said Ashok Pawar, police inspector, Murbad police station. “They first attacked the victim with sharp weapons and then shot him twice. Jaiswal died on the spot.”
Pawar said they suspected that Jaiswal’s attackers were members of the group he earlier belonged to. “They had fallen out a few months ago and the group had split,” he said.
Two months ago, the police had registered cross-complaints against both groups, the officer said. “Jaiswal and his accomplice were arrested for rioting, assaulting, and threatening,” Pawar said. Jaiswal’s brother, Kamlesh, said he is confident that his brother was killed by the same group of men with whom they had an altercation a few months ago. “My brother and I had fought with local goons Ravi Chandane, Bandu Chandane, and Sainath Shirke two months ago. They had even threatened to kill us.”
The Murbad police then visited the suspects’ homes and found that they had been missing since the incident took place earlier in the day. The police have now formed two groups to investigate the case.
