The Bharatiya Janata Party’s state unit has now trained its guns on Chief Minister Prithviraj Chavan, accusing him of shielding corrupt Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) leaders who are involved in various scams in the state.
BJP leader Kirit Somaiya on Tuesday alleged that an understanding has been forged between NCP supremo Sharad Pawar and Chavan to turn a blind eye to the corrupt practices of tainted NCP leaders.
“The anti-corruption bureau’s report on PWD minister Chhagan Bhujbal is lying with the state government since three months, but no action has been taken on it. There is a plan to delay the investigation so that the accused gets time to clear the matter,” Somaiya said.
He also gave an example of irrigation minister Sunil Tatkare, saying that an impression was given that a secret ACB investigation against him is complete and the file has been submitted to Mantralaya, which, Somaiya said, is contrary to the fact.
“There are no investigations started at all. The ACB has asked for permission to pursue 43 cases and none of them mentions Tatakare’s name,” he said.
Interestingly, BJP’s alliance partner the Shiv Sena has been praising Chavan saying that he has stood against the NCP by ordering an inquiry into the scam. Somaiya however struck to his stance, and said, “The Sena did not know these facts, and hence the praise.”
Somaiya said that his party would shortly come out with a ‘black paper’ on the irrigation scam. “The government’s proposed white paper is a sham and we will bring out a black paper within a month to expose how these leaders have looted the state,” he said.
