Chief minister Prithviraj Chavan will raise environmental issues, which are blocking the city’s infrastructure projects, before the Union environment minister Jayanthi Natarajan on Thursday.
Natarajan is in city to hold a meeting with oil companies and shipping officials to review environment safeguards. She will also meet Chavan in the afternoon.
Among the issues to be highlighted will be metro II corridor, coastal road project, Indu mills, Shivaji statue and Western Ghats.
The 32-km second corridor of the Mumbai Metro from Charkop to Mankhurd has been stuck for the past two years for want of green clearance for the casting yards along the route that fall in CRZ II area where construction is restricted.
The state will also seek permission to construct metro depot on 19 hectares of land in Charkop by assuring the Centre that repairs and washing will be held only on 10 hectares that fal in CRZ II and III.
The government is also seeking special concession for coastal road project, Dr Babasaheb Ambedkar’s memorial at Indu Mills and Shivaj statue in the Arabian Sea.
For coastal road project and Shivaji statue, the government is seeking an amendment to the Coastal Regulatory Zone notification 2011.
In the case of Indu Mills, the central ministry will have to allow change of land use for the plot.
