The Congress ministers in the state Cabinet will now meet the aam aadmi at the party’s Nariman Point office twice a week.
With an approval from Chief Minister Ashok Chavan, state Congress Chief Manikrao Thakre has made this programme compulsory for all 18 ministers. The ministers will be present on Tuesdays and Thursdays between 11.30 am and 1.30 pm.
Chavan and Thakre will launch the programme on July 1 at Gandhi Bhavan, party’s Nariman Point office. The party will allot each minister his dates on Thursday.
“This is our effort to bring the government closer to the public. It will ensure greater coordination between the (party) organisation and government,” said Maharashtra Pradesh Congress Committee general secretary Sanjay Dutt.
“The party will call this Jansampark Abhiyaan (public relations exercise).”
Under the programme, the party workers are expected to bring to the minister’s notice issues, which the general public has to deal with. The public will be allowed to submit memoranda and interact with ministers.
