The birthday party of Maharashtra Pradesh Congress Committee (MPCC) President Manikrao Thakre turned out to be a costly affair for a party worker, who was allegedly robbed of Rs 25,000.
The incident took place at the party’s office at Tilak Bhawan in Dadar on Sunday. The Dadar police would be checking the video footage of media personnel attending the party to check for leads in the case.
Pravin Ganpat Patil (47), a resident of Cheetah Camp in Trombay, on August 22, was carrying Rs 25,000 — 50 notes of Rs 500 denomination — in a plastic bag when he reached the venue on Sunday afternoon.
Patil said, “I was constantly checking my pocket as I was carrying a huge amount. When I came down from the stage after wishing Thackre, I was shocked to find the bag missing. We approached the police and filed a complaint.”
Ashok Unde, senior inspector of Dadar police station said, “We have registered a case of theft against unknown person. The party was not just limited to party members alone. .”
There was no CCTV cameras installed at the office and hence the police have to rely on the video footages of the media personnel.
