The Gorai police have arrested a police constable and his accomplice on charges of raping a 21-year-old woman at Manori on October 3.

The accused, all of who are residents of Mira Road, have been identified as Dhananjay Madhne, 23, a constable attached to the local arms unit 4; Arshad Ali, 21, a college student; and Kritika, 22.

The victim, a resident of Khar, has told the police that on October 2, she left her home at around 6 pm after a fight with her live-in partner and loitered around for a while before going to a hookah parlour on SV Road in Goregaon (West).
Here, Kritika approached her and introduced the victim to Madhne and Ali.

“As it was past midnight, Kritika asked me if I would want to come to her home in Malad. I agreed as I was too depressed to go home,” the victim, who works as a telephone operator in Bandra, said in her statement to the police.

The quartet then hailed two autorickshaws from the hookah parlour – Ali and the victim travelled in one, while Kritika and Madhne were in the other auto. The victim alleged that without informing her, the trio took her to the Gorai jetty.

“When I asked them what we were doing at Gorai, Kritika said they had decided to go for a picnic to Water Kingdom. But, the plan changed once we got into a boat and we were dropped at Manori village around 8 am on October 3,” said the victim, adding that Kritika told her that they would continue with their picnic after freshening up, for which they booked a cottage.

According to the victim, once they were in the cottage, Madhne and Ali raped her. Later, Kritika offered to take the victim to her home in Mira Road.

“The victim accompanied Kritika. The two women went to the same hookah parlour again that night, after which, the victim returned to her home in Khar,” said a police officer, who did not wish to be named.

On October 6, the victim received a call from Ali and he asked her if they could meet again. The victim disconnected the call, but Ali called her again the next day. She finally mustered courage and approached the Goregaon police, who on Thursday registered a complaint against Madhne, Ali and Kritika.

However, since the offence had taken place in Manori village, the case was transferred to the Gorai police. “We have registered a case of rape against Madhne and Ali and Kritika has been booked for abetment. The case has been transferred to the Gorai police station,” said senior inspector Surendra Paithankar of the Goregaon police station.

But, according to an officer from the Gorai police station, they have registered a case of rape against Madhne and Ali, who have been arrested, but no case has been registered against Kritika.
