Thursday evening was a memorable one for 42-year-old police constable Ramesh Chopade as he finally got to present a portrait he had sketched of President Pratibha Patil to her.
Chopade’s sketching of the president that had been displayed at the Kala Ghoda festival this year as part of the ‘save a girl’ campaign, came into limelight after police commissioner Arup Patnaik was mesmerised by it when he first saw it.
“Patnaik sir was impressed with the sketch and told me he would ensure it was presented to the President when she was in the city”, said Chopade, who has also sketched the likes of Rabindranath Tagore and Albert Einstein in the past.
The icing on the cake for Chopade, with the central region control room in Byculla, was what Patil told him when he presented the portrait to her. “ She said she had several portraits of her sketched over time, but my sketching was one of the best she has received.”
