A 47-year-old constable, attached to the Oshiwara police station, committed suicide by hanging himself from the ceiling fan at his Kherwadi residence between Friday night and Saturday morning.
Police are clueless why Rajendra Kamble would end his life because no suicide note was found. Kamble lived alone in his 8x10 sq ft room at Sant Gyaneshwar Lane in Kherwadi.
He had divorced his wife in 1998 and his 11-year-old daughter lives with her.
“His senior at the Oshiwara police station, Inspector D. Rupwate, said the last six months Kamble had been irregular at work. He would take leaves very frequently. Rupwate also said that Kamble had been warned against his irregular attendance,” said U.K. Rathod, senior police inspector, of Kherwadi police station.
Rathod said: “We also found a doctor’s prescription note at his house, which showed that he was taking medicines for fever last week.” His mother and sister, who live nearby at Bandra Government Colony, took care of him when he was ill.
Rathod added: “ His mother would visit him every morning. On Saturday, at 8.30 am, when Kamble did not open the door, his mother peered through the window and found him hanging from the fan. She alerted the neighbours, who called the police.”
