Sanjay Devichand Rathod, 26, attached to the Maharashtra special commando force “Force One” has been accused of raping his niece. The 20-year-old girl and her mother lodged a complaint with the police two days ago. Rathod is absconding and the Ambarnath police have sent a team to his native place to find him.

The victim said nine months ago, she met Rathod during a visit to her native place Ondha-Nagnath in Parbhani. He told her he was a cop in the ‘Force One Commando unit’. The girl then gave him her address in Ambarnath as well as her mobile number.

Rathod kept in touch over the phone and eventually expressed his love for the girl. After that he regularly visited the girl at her home in Buvapada, Ambarnath.

The girl’s parents work with a private contractor and are away from home most of the time. Rathod took advantage of this fact to woo the girl. Rathod even organised a fake marriage in a temple and promised the girl he would marry her ‘properly’ within two or three months. But, when the girl got pregnant, Rathod allegedly demanded Rs 5 lakh from her parents and refused to marry her.

The desperate parents tried everything to get Rathod to marry their daughter. When nothing worked, the girl and her mother went to the police.

ACP Smita Pathak said, “In the beginning, he told us he would marry the girl on November 24, so we kept the complaint on hold. But, he suddenly disappeared and we found out that he had been absent from work for the past three months. We have now got the address of his home in his native place and our team is on its way to arrest him.”
