Traffic police constable Nitin Baban Nalawade, 29, who works in the Ghatkopar traffic outpost, was injured while trying to stop three unidentified persons on a bike at LBS marg in Kanjurmarg on Saturday evening.
Police stated that Nalawade, in trying to stop the trio from fleeing, was dragged for around 100 meters after he got hold of the bike and sustained serious injuries on his right leg.
Around 7.10pm, Nalawade spotted the three accused on a bike (As per law, a maximum of 2 people can be seated on a bike).
“When Nalawade signaled the accused to stop, the rider slowed down his bike but then suddenly accelerated. Nalawade grabbed the handle of the bike after which he was dragged for around 100 meters. The person sitting in the middle of the bike pushed Nalwade after which he fell. The wheel of the bike went over his right leg.”
Nalawade managed to notice only the digits (2678) of the number plate of the Pulsar on which the trio was riding.
The accused lost no time and made a hasty escape towards the direction of Mulund. The police are trying to trace them through the digits of the vehicle registration number.
An injured Nalawade was rushed to Fortis hospital in Mulund where he is recuperating. Nalawade had to undergo a surgery as his left leg was fractured in the incident.
The police have registered a case under Indian Penal Code (IPC) in sections 307 (attempt to murder) and 353 (Assault or criminal force to deter public servant from discharge of his duty). The police are looking for the accused.
