“The ground seemed to slip from beneath our feet when we found out on Friday morning that my father had met with an accident,” said Vikas, the older son of assistant sub-inspector Dattu Sarnobat.
On reaching the Bombay Hospital, doctors told the family that Sarnobat was in critical condition.
Sarnobat, who was on-duty at the Bandra-Mahim bridge early on Friday, was hit by a car while he was trying to prevent it from being stolen. He sustained grievous injuries.
Sarnobat’s family is in shock and is waiting anxiously outside the Intesive Care Unit (ICU) of the hospital, where the policeman is undergoing treatment. Vikas, who is doing his Masters in Business Administration (MBA), said that Sarnobat was the sole breadwinner of the family. His family, comprising Sarnobat’s wife and two sons, live in Andheri.
Doctors said that Sarnobat will be under observation for at least 48 hours.
