A sub-inspector (PSI) attached to Turbhe police station shot himself dead with his service revolver on Saturday night and, in his suicide note, blamed his senior for pushing him to it. The senior has termed the allegations baseless.
PSI Prabhakar Patil, 58, who was due for retirement was found dead in a parked local train in the CBD Belapur rail yard. He had shot himself in the head.
In the suicide note found at the spot, Patil is said to have stated he was under pressure from his senior, inspector (crime) MM Patil of Turbhe police station.
Police sources said Prabhakar had been posted at Mhape check-post on Saturday. When city deputy commissioner of police (DCP) Purshottam Karad and assistant commissioner of police Dilip Jagtap reached the spot, they found barricades missing. On being told by Prabhakar they were broken, Karad and Jagtap apparently vented their ire on Patil.
Prabhakar’s suicide note said Patil took him to task over this.
Prakash Salvi, senior police inspector of Government Railway Police, said, “We received a call around 1.30 am on Sunday about the body of a policeman inside a train. We found two live rounds in his pocket and a blank at the spot.”
He said, “In the suicide note, he mentioned the incident with Patil. He claims to have committed suicide because of harassment from his senior.”
DCP Karad said, “We will conduct an inquiry.”
