The Maharashtra government on Monday suspended Mumbai police’s anti-narcotics cell inspector, Anil Jadhav, who was arrested at a rave party busted by the Raigad police at Hotel Mount View near the Mumbai-Pune highway on Sunday night.
“We have suspended Anil Jadhav. If anyone from the police department is involved in any such case, he will not be spared,” said state home minister RR Patil.
Four others — hotel manager Rahul Khanna, Jadhav’s aide Sunil Ghule and party organisers Snehjit Sajalkar and Kishankumar Sujankumar — have also been arrested.
The merrymakers — 300 youngsters, including 59 girls -— were held and released after medical tests. Most of them were students from Mumbai and Pune between the age group of 20-30 years, the police said.
The police also seized nearly 2 kg ganja, 57 gm charas, cocaine and R3,08,000.
This is the second time that an official from the anti-narcotics cell was involved in cases of narcotics. The government has asked the department to furnish details. “Only those cops having a clean track record will stay. We cannot afford to have weak vigilance since drugs can destroy the future of the next generation,” Patil said.
The prime accused is however absconding.
