With no headway in the three murders involving minor girls in Cuffe Parade, the police have asked the forensic laboratory to expedite the reports of all the suspects.
At least 785 people have undergone DNA profiling tests after the first incident took place in November 2011. But the samples are pending with the Forensic Science Laboratory (FSL).
Investigators stated that one of the major hindrances in the case was non-availability of FSL reports. Chhering Dorjee, deputy commissioner of police, zone 1, said, “We have asked the FSL officials to send the reports soon. However, they are still non-committal about when can they complete the whole process. The investigation is underway and we are interrogating the suspects.”
The police also stated that the CCTV camera footage that were procured from some of the neighbouring buildings such as Maker Towers, UAE Consulate and IDBI building were of no help. “We have scanned the footage of many buildings in the area, but haven’t anything,” Dorjee said.
The police presence in the area continues to be beefed up with five CCTV cameras put up at different locations to monitor suspicious movements.
Apart from the spot near the Cuffe Parade police station, CCTV cameras have been put up near the Backbay bus depot, Veej Bhawan, Badhwar Park slums and Ganesh Murti nagar.
All the cameras have recording capacity of a month, with automatic zoom-in and 360 degrees coverage in a distance of 50 meters.
