Three dacoits, of a gang of five, allegedly conspiring to loot a wine shop, were arrested on Monday from Andheri (West).
The arrested were produced in a local court and have been remanded to police custody till July 7. The police have seized a sword, a sickle, a nylon rope and a packet of chilly powder from them. An officer from the Amboli police station said that after receiving a tip-off, two groups of policemen, dressed as civilians, kept watch in the vicinity of the wine shop, in Amboli.
Around 5.30 pm, the police nabbed the three accused — Sunil Yadav, 20, Vinod Patel, 21, and Ritesh Hada, 19, — from the road opposite the wine shop. However, their two accomplices fled.
Assistant police inspector Irfan Shaikh, Amboli police station, said: “Yadav was the mastermind of the plan and has been earlier convicted in cases of robbery and house break-ins in the past one year.”
The three have been booked under section 399 (making preparations to commit dacoity) and section 402 (assembling for purpose of committing dacoity) of the Indian Penal Code, and relevant sections of the Indian Arms Act and Bombay Police Act.
