Two ice-cream vendors, who were arrested for stabbing another vendor on Monday, have been identified as Shyam Babu Yadav, 34 and Kumar Hussain Sheikh, 37.

The victim, Asif, was stabbed on Monday evening near Gateway of India, where the three have their stalls, after an argument with the accused.

“The duo was caught by police officers present at the spot. Asif was rushed to the hospital,” said Vinod Sawant, senior police inspector, Colaba police station, adding that they had recovered the knife used to stab Asif.

The police confirmed that Asif was out of danger.

“Asif had lowered his rates from Rs10 per ice-cream to Rs5 and the duo was losing customers. When they spoke to Asif, he refused to increase his prices,” said an officer from the Colaba police station on the condition of anonymity.

When Asif did not change his rates, the duo stabbed him, said the police.
