The police have identified a security guard and three Nepalese as those who broke into actor Hema Malini’s bungalow at Goregaon last week. The police refused to reveal their names.
On February 28, cash and jewellery worth Rs 80 lakh was stolen from the actor’s 2,500 sq ft bungalow at Yashodhara Hilltop society in Dindoshi. “Divulging any information at this stage will hamper the investigation,” said Senior Police Inspector Vinayak Kakade of the Dindoshi police station.
Two police teams have been posted at the Indo-Nepal border to arrest two of the Nepalese as they might try to sneak out of the country, a source said.
The police said the Nepalese had taken the security guard, who hails from Uttar Pradesh, into confidence and planned the robbery when Malini was away at Nagpur for a dance performance. The police have questioned more than 50 people including security guards, newspaper vendors and maids in the neighbourhood. The investigators said they suspected an insider’s role as the robbers knew where the locker was.
