The railway police are still clueless about the identity of the woman whose body was found in the luggage compartment of a local train at Churchgate on Monday.
The woman, in her early twenties, was found in the luggage compartment on Monday. Her body had strangulation mark on her neck and injuries on her body. After a post-mortem, the police lodged a murder case. The preliminary post-mortem report ruled out sexual assault, said the police.
The railway police said their main focus is areas between Vasai and Virar. "We questioned some fisherwomen who boarded the train from Vasai. The women told us that when they boarded the train, the sack was there below the seat. They did not pay any attention as there were many other sacks in the compartment," said a senior railway police officer.
The police are inquiring with people who buy and sell old clothes as the woman was wearing an old suit and the police found 24 sets of old clothes in the bedsheet in which the body was covered. "We are inquiring in all the residential areas, slums and markets for leads, said Dilip Chauhan, assistant commissioner of police (railway crime).
