Actor Arjun Rampal may face police action for meeting convicted gangster Arun Gawli at the JJ hospital last year.

An investigation carried out by the JJ Marg police found that the actor’s visit was “unlawful”. They will now send the probe report to the jail authorities.

An IPS officer told Hindustan Times the actor had not taken any prior permission from the court or jail authorities and had not followed any legal procedure to meet Gawli.

The police said the actor can be charged under Section 188 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC), invoked against an offender for disobeying the order duly promulgated by public servant, and an FIR registered against him. "We will send the report to the jail authorities suggesting the legal action that needs to be taken against Rampal," the officer said.

Arjun Rampal plays Arun Gawli in his upcoming film Daddy.

On December 29 last year, Rampal, who plays Gawli in the underproduction film Daddy, met the gangster at the hospital.

Gawli is serving a life term in a murder case. He was brought for a routine check-up at the state-run-hospital from Navi Mumbai’s Taloja jail.

The police ordered an inquiry into the meeting and the actor was summoned to record his statement.

Rampal, in his statement, said he met Gawli accidentally while roaming around in the hospital for his film, the officer said.
