A special police team is investigating the murder of politician Ravi Patil, 49, who was shot on Wednesday night while he was returning from a political meeting about the upcoming Grampanchyat elections in Murbad taluka.
Patil was also a faculty of Commerce in CHM College, Ulhasnagar.
Three unidentified assailants shot at Patil, who was walking back home, near Bazaar Peth. The attackers came in an i-20 and pushed him from behind. Patil fell down on the road as the three shot him in the head.
“Patil had a clean image. We found the vehicle, which was abandoned by the attackers, near Ambeshiv village on Eranjaad road, Badlapur,” said police inspector Pratap Mankar.
Patil, who is survived by his wife, two children and a brother, was earlier with the Shiv Sena, but he left the party after he became the Ulhasnagar Gramin Taluka Pramukh for the Congress. Patil’s funeral on Thursday was attended by Congress state president Manikrao Thakare, MP Suresh Taware, and many leaders from different political parties.
